Weekly Update #46

Hi and happy Saturday. It’s amazing that it’s December already. I feel like just yesterday it was still summer. And tomorrow it will probably feel like spring… yikes! Aside from writing this week, I also worked on Advent of Code which is an advent calendar where you solve programming puzzles. (You can find it here if you’re into that sort of thing.) Some of the problems took 10 minutes and some took a loooot longer. Last year I used Nim and this year I’m using Python. It’s been interesting to check other people’s solutions and the languages they used after I finish each day. Someone is actually using Brainf*ck, which is either commendable or crazy.

I made good progress on my new book since my last post. I’m right on track at 9000 words (1000 per day). For this story I’m taking more time to focus on small scenes and details to provide some additional depth to the world and its people, so I haven’t even finished the first chapter yet. Overall I’m satisfied with where it is and what I’m trying to accomplish (besides telling a good story). I’ve been trying to imagine how long it will be but I haven’t decided yet. Usually I know pretty closely before hand, but I think this one could either be 80k or 150k words. Maybe I’ll split it into two if there is a good stopping point somewhere between 80 and 100k and I still have a lot left to say.
