Weekly Update #51

Happy Saturday. There is a big cold front in the US right now (almost the whole country!), so I hope you are all staying warm. Temperatures are supposed to be dipping even lower in the next few days. I plan on staying indoors as much as possible except for my daily walks.

My writing this week went well I think. I’m kind of in this place where the main plot doesn’t really need to progress and so there is time to just sit and wonder at the world. I’ve never really been sure about when to include side stories and details that have no other purpose than to illuminate the characters’ surroundings, but I’m getting a better understanding of that with this book. I’m learning not to be afraid about lingering or spending just a thousand words on one person doing something. In the end it all works together to build something greater than the sum of the parts. Or something! Anyway, I reached all of my daily quotas so my total word count right now is 38k.
